Abby Dolls

Abby Cadabby is a Sesame Street character who takes the form of a 3 year old fairy. Her name derives from the popular magic word 'Abracadabra'. She broke her wand in the first episode that she featured in and she was told by Big Bird to take it to Maria's Fix it shop to have it mended.

The idea behind the introduction of Abby was to bring in a character which didn't come from Sesame Street as previous characters had. She doesn't look like the other fairies she knows and she is a female character cast in a major role. The intentions behind her introduction are subtle, but meant that the show's producer had another option for creating diversity along with the multicultural human characters on the Street.

The furry pink fairy has limited magic powers such as the ability to turn objects into pumpkins, floating especially when she is happy. She also has the ability to vanish and reappear in the blink of an eye. When she sees something that surprises or intrigues her, she uses her catchphrase that's so magical! and when she's leaving she says Gotta poof.

A plush version of Abby Cadabby was released by Fisher Price in June of 2007. Since then she has featured on a range of greeting cards, balloons, DVDs and books. A host of publishers and manufacturers have produced Abby Cadabby merchandise as she is a popular character amongst Sesame Street's young viewers. In addition a 43 foot high balloon of the character was created for the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.
